WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Breathwork teaches the self-regulation of breathing, sustained attention to inner experience and an attitude of acceptance to that experience, along with relaxation, to access and integrate somatic experiences normally below the threshold of consciousness awareness.
Breathwork develops an increased ability to remain comfortably in contact with moment-to-moment experience, without over-identifying with thoughts and feelings. This results in the emergence of a new perception of self and the world.
This workshop is designed as an intensive, experiential teaching in the key skills required to facilitate the Breathwork intervention in clinical contexts. Through paired practice sessions, participants will learn how to guide clients through a Breathwork session, and experience the transformational power of Breathwork for themselves.
The Breathwork technique provides a gentle yet powerful approach to healing and self-awareness that can be implimented in a variety of practice settings.
Fee: $280

ATTENDING AS A RESEARCH PARTICIPANT (THERAPIST)
As part of a research project into the effectiveness of Breathwork as an intervention for depression with comorbid anxiety, we are recruiting therapists to learn the Breathwork technique and then treat two clients. Training and supervision is provided free of charge. In order to be eligible to participate in this research you will need to meet the following minimum criteria.
Be a mental health professional with an undergraduate degree in psychology or related health or social science degree and minimum of one year of counselling experience, or comparable.
Therapists participating in this research are required to attend the Breathwork Therapy for Depression and Anxiety Workshop and then use Breathwork (guided by a treatment manual) to treat two clients drawn from the community meeting DSM-IV criteria for major depression and/or anxiety. The therapy end-point will be dependent on symptom reduction, with a maximum of up to 10 sessions.
In addition to the workshop, Therapists will also receive four sessions of supervision in delivering the Breathwork intervention.
Therapists participating in this research and completing the four sessions of supervision will be awarded a Certificate in Supervised Practice of Breathwork Therapy. Participation will provide the foundation skills to start using Breathwork with clients as part of your own clinical practice.
For full details of the research and the requirements of participation please download the
